Touton is a leading cocoa and coffee trading company in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. The main objective was to study the Touton group’s compliance with the environmental and social standards applicable to its various activities, with a focus on its cocoa and coffee activities in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.
The mission consisted of :
1. Describe Touton’s various activities and analyse the group’s competitive environment in terms of sustainable development
2. Carry out an Environmental & Social audit of the national and international Performance Standards and their application in the various activities and countries where the Touton group is present, with a particular focus on the Central African Republic and Ghana.
3. To draw up an action plan and recommendations to comply with the required standards at Group level.
The methodology adopted was aimed at analysing in particular the entire cocoa and coffee value chain in which Touton operates. This approach makes it possible to identify, at each stage of the value chain, potential serious shortcomings (‘red flags’), but also the main areas in which Touton could improve its performance in terms of compliance with standards and environmental and social impact. Particular emphasis was placed on the IFC Performance Standards
